Understanding Levels of Leadership

In order to facilitate a movement you need to understand the different levels of the leaders that you have developed. These levels are not position or hierarchy. Rather, they are levels of fruitfulness that different leaders have arrived at. When you understand these levels of leadership, then you can learn how to move leaders from one level to the next.

Let us look at these levels, and then we can further explore how this understanding can help us.

Level 1 - House Church Leader. Level one leaders are those who faithfully and fruitfully sow the Word of God among the lost and then disciple the new believers while forming them into a DBS and then House Church.

Level 2 - Church Planter. Level two leaders have formed more than one House Church and have also trained these House Churches to reproduce. This level two leader is often responsible for 3 -10 house churches or more.

Level 3 - Church Multiplier. Level three leaders have trained several Level 2 leaders and have several streams of house churches that are arriving to 3rd and 4th generations. This level three leader is often responsible for 20 - 100 House Churches or more.

Level 4 - Movement Trainer. Level four leaders are, first of all, Level 3 leaders who have multiple streams and generations of house churches from their own labors. But this leader is also able to start new movements in new regions and train other emerging networks of House Churches to become fruitful.

Level 5 - National or Regional Coordinator. Level 5 leaders have helped to start and network multiple streams of movements in many different areas with a vision for an entire nation or beyond.

In order to be a Level 2 Leader, you must be working with several Level 1 Leaders. This is your first task in developing a movement.

In order to become a Level 3 Leader, you must be working with several Level 2 Leaders and see streams of House Churches that are reaching 3rd and 4th generation.

In order to become a Level 4 Leader, you must be working with many Level 3 Leaders and know how to develop them in new areas.

In order to become a Level 5 Leader, you will be very fruitful if you have developed 10 - 12 or more Level 4 Leaders.

This leads us to a key question that we will continue to explore together: how do we move a leader to the next level? What training does he/she need? What assignments and accountability does he/she need?

Successfully developing increasingly fruitful leaders will, ultimately, be the key to the growth and sustainability of the DMM movement you are facilitating.
