A new implementer of DMM had this challenge to share:
By grace, I have two new persons of peace this month and we have started group DBS with each of them.
Challenges:
The first person of peace has stopped seeking for persons of peace. And she is only one person who is ‘active in mission work’ but not following Luke 10."
Always when I call either of them for meetings, they complain they don't have time.
This gives us an opportunity to review some of the important principles of persons of peace.
- When we pray for persons of peace, according to Luke 10:2, we are asking Jesus to give us ‘workers’ for the harvest. It is not enough that someone welcomes us into their home and agrees to study the Bible with us. A true person of peace is not simply becoming a convert but, rather, accepting the Kingdom of God and becoming a person of obedience. We do not want to call someone a person of peace until we see that such a person is committed to obedience to Jesus. This is a key marker.
- Remember the importance of prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit in finding the person of peace. As my friend likes to say: “God prepares the person of peace. When you find this person that God has prepared, movement will happen.”
- Normally, the best persons of peace or unbelievers, not church members.
- Above all, don't give up. My brother who has much experience in DMM reminded me recently that you will not be successful in DMM unless you have failed many times. We must learn and continue to press on.
Let us review the characteristics of persons of peace. Sometimes we find a person who has only some of these characteristics. But a person of peace will have ALL:
- Persons of peace have been prepared by God for His work in the harvest field.
- Persons of peace are willing and able to take the Gospel to others, especially their own oikos group.
- Persons of peace are welcoming and hungry for spiritual things.
